I prefer to work with all solid woods, Cherry, Walnut, and Maple are some of my favorites, I do have some small pieces of exotic woods that I tend to use sparingly. Most of the finishing I do is a couple of coats of tung-oil varnish to bring out the figure and then a few coats of paste wax to create a soft lustre. A good waxing every so often, and over time the wood will develop a warm glow. I don't use any stains, the natural beauty of the wood is all you see.
